To research my essential question, I found a link to a chapter of a book entitled “The Psychology of Money.” This book was written by Adrian Furnham and Michael Argyle to cover the neglected topic of the psychology of money. The chapter talks about the motives behind acquiring and spending money and provide a experimentally based perspective on the behavior that money induces.

Economy
The stigma around money is that the only appropriate time to talk about money is when the economy is doing well. When the stock market is doing well it is appropriate to talk about wanting money or wealth. However, when the economy crashes, people generally think the subject of money is too inappropriate a subject to bring up at all.
Likewise, in “Turtles All the Way Down,” Davis was carless about his supply of money. After his dad disappears he starts to worry about his inheritance and close the subject of money quickly. He also does not ask Aza about her situation whereas he might have before.

Money effect on human relations
It is a widely accepted idea that money can disrupt individuals in such ways as making someone who makes intelligent, wise, and thought out decisions to make poor, irrational, and impulsive decisions. This is based on the foundation that wealthy people have the resources to afford making mistakes and will not carefully plan their affairs. The book refers to a quote by Karl Marx: “money transforms real human and natural faculties into mere abstract representations.” Marx claims that money can impact people socially.
In “Turtles All the Way Down,” Davis’s father decides to leave his whole estate to the study of an animal, not leaving any inheritance for his two young sons. No rational human could be so careless about the future of their children.

Many people go about making money in morally wrong ways because of the joy they are expectant to have after they have money. In the text it says “there are ethical issues about how to acquire and use money, which means money attitudes are linked to other ideologies and beliefs.”
Davis’ father was in the past investigated because of his huge success and his assumed suicide was in one of the work cites he was paying for. He wanted to believe he could live forever but instead was suspected of committing suicide.

Conclusion
Although having money and resources does allow access to great aspects of the world, money does have a negative affect on human behavior. After reading “Turtles All the Way Down,” readers are convinced that money makes psychological changes to the human mindset. As Davis was, many wealthy teens are negatively impacted by the choices of their parents.
