APPEARANCE

THE FLOWER HAS FIVE TO SIX PINK-PETALS SURROUNDING SMALL, YELLOW CENTERS. EACH FLOWER SPIKE IS MADE OUT OF MANY INDIVIDUAL FLOWERS. IT HAS A WOODY ROOT AND BLOOMS IN TALL SPIKES.

ORIGINATION

PURPLE-LOOSESTRIFE CAME INTO NORTH AMERICA IN THE 1880'S.

WHERE IS IT NOW

PURPLE-LOOSESTRIFE SPREAD TO THE 48 STATES.

HOW DID IT GET HERE

1980'S SETTLERS BROUGHT PURPLE LOOSE-STRIFE FOR THEIR GARDENS.

WHAT IMPACTS HAS IT MADE

ON THE ENVIRONMENT IT DESTROYS FIELDS AND ANYTHING IN IT'S PATH IT REDUCES HABITAT AND HAS A NEGATIVE IMPACT ON THE ENVIRONMENT. IT HURTS THE FISHING ECONOMY BECAUSE IT CAN COVER LAKES.

WHAT IS BEING DONE TO ERADICATE IT

PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO REMOVE THEM BY HAND IN LATE JUNE, JULY, AND AUGUST BUT THEY HAVE TO BE CAREFUL NOT TO SPREAD THE SEEDS.
