CHRISTMAS:

  • Food:
  • seasoned rice, pigeon peas, cooked green banan
  • turkey, roasted pork, fried plantains, yams
  • Desserts: rice pudding,
  • They out a pig on a stick and roast it.

CHRISTMAS DECORATIONS:

  • Santa statues are around the house
  • Don't believe Santa brings them gifts.
  • They fill shoe boxes with gifts
  • Then place them under the parents beds.
  • They celebrate the culture behind Christmas more.

NEW YEARS:

  • On the day before New Years, they clean their houses.
  • They do this because they believe that it will stay that way for the year.
  • They celebrate through celebrations, and parties.
  • Having fireworks, food, music, and decorations.
  • After celebrations a poem called "El Brindis del Bohemio" is recited.

NEW YEARS DECORATIONS:

  • Put up lights, along with sparkling silver and gold.
  • Colorful balloons, and colored ribbons.
  • They also use sparklers to light up, to look like the stars.

NEW YEARS FOOD:

  • They eat 12 grapes, when the clock strikes 12.
  • Each grape is a symbol for each up coming month.
  • Pork, rice, pigeon peas, and a sweet rice.

SUPERSTITIONS THAT HELP PEOPLE GET READY FOR HOLIDAYS:

  • They throw buckets of water over their heads on balconies.
  • They do this to get rid of the evil spirits.
  • They also all wear yellow underwear to bring good luck.
  • Each day is supposed to correspond with each month.
  • So if the fourth day is cloudy, they believe April will be a cloudy month.
