SILORIAN PERIOD:

  • The warm shallow seas made good conditions for marine life to grow.

DEVONIAN PERIOD:

  • Amphibians, meanwhile, became the first four legged animals on land.

CARBONIFEROUS PERIOD:

  • The Carboniferous period lasted to about 359.2 to 299 million years ago.

PERMIAN PERIOD:

  • Most marine life died, and 80 percent of plants and animals were wiped out.

TRIASSIC PERIOD:

  • Many animals died out at the end of the Triassic period, including most of the large amphibians and about 20 percent of the reptiles.

JURASSIC PERIOD:

  • During the Jurassic period the huge landmass og Pangea into two pieces-Laurasia to the north and Gondwana to the south.

CRETACEOUS PERIOD:

  • During the Cretaceous period flowering plants emerged.
  • Flowers bring pollen and eggs close together, making fertilization a sure thing.

TERTIARY PERIOD:

  • A line of volcanoes created Central America, joining North and South America.

PLEISTOCENE PERIOD:

  • Erosion stops Kenosha-fossils pile up again.

WISCONSIN'S LAST ICE AGE:

  • Ice age conditions helped humans migrate to new continents.
