PUBIC LICE

CAUSE

  • Often spread during sexual activity
  • Rarely, public lice can spread through contact with objects such as toilet seats, sheets and blankets.
  • Greater risk is you have many sexual partners, sexual contact with an infected person, share bedding or clothes with an infected person.

  • Pubic lice are tiny insects that infect the pubic hair area and lay eggs there.
  • Therefore it is a parasite.

SYMPTOMS

  • The symptoms are the same for both male and female.
  • Skin reaction that causes skin to turn bluish-gray in color.
  • Sores in the genital area due to bites and scratching.
  • The most common symptom is itching.

TREATMENT

  • Pubic lice is often treated with medicines that contain a substance called permethrin.
  • You should also wash all clothing and bedding in hot water and spray items that cannot be washed with a medicated spray to prevent the lice from coming back.
  • Pubic lice is curable.

COMPLICATIONS

  • Due to scratching the skin may become raw, or even cause a skin infection.
