  • was conducted at Stanford University from August 14 to August 20, 1971
  • investigation into the causes of conflict between military guards and prisoners.
  • ultimately subjected some of the prisoners to psychological torture.
  • The experiment even affected Zimbardo who in his role as the superintenden

MILGRAM OBEDIENCE EXPERIMENT

  • series of social psychology experiments
  • conducted by Yale University psychologist Stanley Milgram
  • which measured the willingness participants to obey an authority figure
  • who instructed them to perform acts that conflicted with their personal conscience
  • Controversial cause it could effect participants trust towards others.

ABU GHRAIB IRAQ PRISON SCANDAL

  • during the War in Iraq police personnel of the United States Army.
  • committed human rights violations against prisoners in the Abu Ghraib prison.
  • physically and sexually abused, tortured raped and killed prisoners.
  • charged under the Uniform Code of Military Justice with prisoner abuse
  • Removed 17 soldiers from duty, and 11 soldiers were charged with assault and battery
