A psychologist is a expert or specialist in psychology. They study how we think, feel and behave from a scientific viewpoint and applies this knowledge to help people understand, explain and change their behaviour.

  • Offices of other health practitioners: $68,400

years of school

  • Clinical: Doctorate Degree in Psychology (4 to 7 years of graduate school)
  • Industrial-Organizational: Master's degree (2 to 3 of graduate school) 
  • Forensic: Master's degree (2 to 3 years of graduate school)
  • Social worker: Bachelor's degree (4 to 5 years of undergrad school)
  • Licensed Counselor: Masters degree (2 to 3 years of graduate school)

Psychologist often work in private practice. This means that they have their own offices and are able to establish their own work schedule. It is important to note that many psychologists who run their own businesses frequently work evening and weekend hours in order to accommodate the schedules of their clients.

Some psychologists work shift schedules, including those employed in hospitals, nursing homes, retirement centres and other health care facilities. This often includes working night shifts and weekends.
