ADVANTAGES

  • Their American countries made them the most powerful nation in the 16th century
  • They were rich. Ships with treasures sailed between Spain and their countries.
  • Military power is strong to defend their ships
  • Priests were influenced to come to convert the natives.

DISDVANTAGES

  • Their population wasn't as large as other countries
  • Priests were against the gov't on enslaving the Indians or Africans
  • Natives began to resist the Spanish rule and fought against them.
  • The diseases they brought with them killed many of the natives.

DISADVANTAGES

  • Focused more on the money from their land
  • Small population
  • Inferior army to the English
  • Did not set out to create colonies, which caused their land to not be heavily defended

  • They kicked out Indians from their land, which caused war against them
  • Were gold diggers in the beginning which caused many to perish.
  • Began to lust for more land, which helped them make enemies.
  • Diseases they brought killed the many Indians which caused a drop in labor

DUTCH

  • Weak army force.
  • Did not have many Dutch settlers so they opened their land to others.
  • Some were not encouraged to colonize their new land.
  • They also brought amongst them harmful diseases which killed Indians.
  • Which brought down the fur trade.
