Project based learning cont.

  • There is an emphasis on cooperative learning.
  • Learning is relavent and meaningful and hands on.
  • An example of this would be to create a community school garden.

Ex. cont
The school garden promotes learning in math, nutrition, biology, ecology, the arts and motor development. For example, the students in all elementary school grades can plant seeds and discuss the growing cycle.

Inquiry learning

  • Students questions drive learning. Learning is student centered and hands on.
  • Students view themselves as active participants in their learning.
  • They plan and carry out investigations.
  • Propose solutions, ask questions, critique their work.

An example of inquiry learning would be a science lesson on "mystery substances" you can have the students observe sample substances they are not familiar with and discuss their properties and gather information on that to solve and produce questions based on the data.

Socratic Dialogue

  • Get the students thinking critically about difficult issues.
  • Create open ended questions. Begin the discussion and focus on discussion topic. Allow for equal time for all members.
  • Clarify, synthesize, and restate opinions.
  • Students actively listen and do not interrupt each other.
  • There is no right answer.

Ex
An example of Socratic dialogue as shown in the video is a mom telling their child to go to bed and then the child keeps asking why. Then the discussion continues because you need to sleep, etc.
