Fidel Castro came to Cuba and promised to create a democracy.
Cubans who spoke out against Castro's policies were imprisoned.
all newspapers,radio and television stations opposed to Castro's regime were either shut down or put under government control.

thousands or afghan refugees fled into Pakistan and other neighboring countries to escape the fighting.
by the end of 2001, there were 5 million afghan refugees living in Pakistan.
