RULE OF LAW

  • 1. the restriction of the arbitrary exercise of power by subordinating it to well-defined and established laws.

INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS

  • Individual rights refer to the liberties of each individual to pursue life and goals without interference from other individuals or the government. Examples of individual rights include the right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness as stated in the United States Declaration of Independence.

FEDARALISM

  • federalism definition. A system of government in which power is divided between a national (federal) government and various regional governments.

POPULAR SOVEREIGNTY

  • Popular sovereignty or the sovereignty of the people's rule is the principle that the authority of a state and its government is created and sustained by the consent of its people, through their elected representatives (Rule by the People), who are the source of all political power.

INDEPENDENT JUDICIARY

  • Judicial independence is the concept that the judiciary needs to be kept away from the other branches of government. That is, courts should not be subject to improper influence from the other branches of government, or from private or partisan interests.
