PRESENTATION OUTLINE
Today we will learn the difference between prime and composite numbers.
Prime number
A prime number can only be divisible by one and itself. The circled numbers are the only numbers that you can use as factors to get to 2.
Another example is 17.
17 is a prime number because it is only divisible by 1 and itself.
Use what you have learned to identify what is prime and what is not.
2,3,5,7, are all the prime numbers between 1 and 10 that are prime.
All the numbers circled in red are what we call composite numbers.
Composite Numbers
composite numbers are all the numbers that have more than to factors.
So if a prime number only has one problem to add up to itself, composite numbers will have two like 9.
That means that prime numbers will always have 2 factors and composite numbers will always have more than 2 factors.
Now that you have learned all you need to know about prime and composite numbers try to identity all the prime and composite numbers between 1 and 30.
Now let's learn about 1. 1 is not prime nor composite. This is because a prime number is only divisible by 1 and itself but 1 is itself so 1 can't be prime.
