PRECEPTS OF THE CHURCH

EXPLANATION

  • The precepts are descriptions of the absolute minimum actions required of Catholics
  • There are only five precepts
  • We use these precepts to remind us that Christian life requires a commitment to prayer and active participation

THE FIVE PRECEPTS

  • You shall attend Mass on Sundays and on holy days of obligation and rest from servile labor.
  • You shall receive the sacrament of the Eucharist at least during the Easter season.
  • You shall help to provide for the needs of the Church.
  • You shall confess your sins at least once a year.
  • You shall observe the days of fasting and abstinence established by the Church.

FIRST PRECEPTS

  • You shall attend Mass on Sundays and on holy days of obligation and rest from servile labor.
  • Every Sunday we must go to mass
  • Rest on Sunday and don't do labor

SECOND PRECEPT

  • You shall receive the sacrament of the Eucharist at least during the Easter season.
  • You have to at least eat the Eucharist during the Easter season

THIRD PRECEPTS

  • You shall help to provide for the needs of the Church.
  • If your church is in financial needs you should help them pay that

FORTH PRECEPT

  • You shall confess your sins at least once a yearn
  • You have to confess to cleanse your soul

FIFTH PRECEPT

  • You shall observe the days of fasting and abstinence for days of the church
  • Fast on days that the church asks you to fast on

FASTING

  • Means don't eat food for a Serbian period of timej
  • If you are pregnant or nursing you have an excuse
  • On fast days you may eat one full meal and two smaller meals
  • All Catholics age 18 to 59 are have to fast on Ash Wednesday and Good Friday.

ABSTENANCE

  • Abstinence means not eating meat (fish is not considered meat in this case).
  • All Catholics 14 and older are required to observe abstinence on these days

GO BYYOND

  • Go to church every week
  • Take the Eucharist every time you go to church
