Isa 28:11 For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people.

In the beginning, speaking in tongues may not always sound like a full language. The scriptures say that God will speak with stammering lips and another tongue. Becoming fluent in the language of the Spirit is simply a matter of daily “practice”. You should speak in your “new” tongue every day for at least a few minutes. The longer the better. A little bit every day is better than an hour once a week.

12 This is the rest wherewith ye may cause the weary to rest; and this is the refreshing:

Mark 16:15-18 15 And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned. 17 And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues; 18. They shall take up serpents; and if they drink any deadly thing, it shall not hurt them; they shall lay hands on the sick, and they shall recover.

Acts 2:4, 16-18 And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

16 But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; 17 And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: 18 And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:

1 Cor 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

1 Cor 12:28 And God hath set some in the church, first apostles, secondarily prophets, thirdly teachers, after that miracles, then gifts of healings, helps, governments, diversities of tongues.

1 Cor 14:37,39-37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the commandments of the Lord. 38 But if any man be ignorant, let him be ignorant. 39 Wherefore, brethren, covet to prophesy, and forbid not to speak with tongues.

7 Things You Need To Know About Tongues

7 Things You Need To Know About Tongues:

  • God Prophesied Tongues Through The Prophet Isaiah
  • Jesus Stated/Prophesied That His Disciples WOULD Speak in Tongues
  • Jesus Commanded His Disciples To Wait Until They Received The Promise of The Father Which Would Bring With It – Tongues!

5. When The Promise of The Father Came, THEY ALL Spoke With Other Tongues!
The promise Is To You And To As Many As God Shall Call! 6 6. GOD HATH SET... Diversities of Tongues In The Church!

7. The Apostle Paul Said That His Writings Were The Commandments of God, and he said, NOT TO FORBID Speaking With Tongues!

Refreshing Tongues

“I thank my God, I speak with tongues more than ye all” 1 Corinthians 14:18

Smith Wigglesworth was once asked why he did not take vacations (or “holidays”, as the English would say). He replied: “I do. I take a holiday every day. I pray in other tongues and I am refreshed and rested and ready to continue working in the Father’s vineyard.”

2 Thessalonians 3:13 But ye, brethren, be not weary in well doing.

Galatians 6:9 And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.

Often in long battles, we may become tired and tempted to let up or relax. Praying in other tongues will bring the needed renewal and refreshing that is able to carry you through. Praying in other tongues causes the “rivers of living water” to flow through you, bringing the rest and the refreshing.

Travailing Tongues

Romans 8:26-28New International Version (NIV)

26 In the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. We do not know what we ought to pray for, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us through wordless groans. 27 And he who searches our hearts knows the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for God’s people in accordance with the will of God.
28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who[a] have been called according to his purpose.

Galatians 4:19-21New International Version (NIV)

19 My dear children, for whom I am again in the pains of childbirth until Christ is formed in you, 20 how I wish I could be with you now and change my tone, because I am perplexed about you!

groaneth / NT:4959 [ sustenazo (soos[ten[ad'[zo); to moan jointly, i.e. (figuratively) experience a common calamity: Translated in the KJV as: groan together.

travaileth [ NT:4944 [ sunodino (soon[o[dee'[no); to have (parturition) pangs in company (concert, simultaneously) with, i.e. (figuratively) to sympathize (in expectation of relief from suffering): Translated in the KJV as: travail in pain together.

According to Mark 11:22-24 we are to speak what we desire to have.

The process is simple: Make sure what you desire is in alignment with God’s will. It is beneficial to have at least 2 or 3 scriptures that clearly promise what is desired. Then simply ask God for it and then decide to believe that God has answered your prayer and has given you the desired thing. Then begin thanking Him for the thing even before you see it.

“Therefore let him who speaks in a tongue pray that he may interpret. For if I pray in a tongue, my spirit prays, but my understanding is unfruitful. What is the conclusion then? I will pray with the spirit, and I will also pray with the understanding. I will sing with the spirit, and I will also sing with the understanding.” (1Cor. 14:13-15)

There are several ways to speak in other tongues:
1. Quiet – for maintenance
2. Loud [ to charge the dynamo and/or stir up the gift.
3. Slow – methodical
4. Rapid – too fast to think – bypass the mind

5. Letting your mind wander while you speak
6. Focused – Directing your tongues toward specific prayer targets
7. While reading the Bible
8. While reading other books and/or newspapers

Dr Lance Wallnau

Speak the interpretation when you have enough English to start speaking. The difference between speaking in tongues, and interpreting, is that when you are speaking in tongues, you do not know the next syllable/word/phrase that is coming out of your mouth until the split second that you speak it.

When you are interpreting, you can only start speaking when you have the first few understandable words of the sentence. You might not get the whole sentence right off the bat, but it is important to step out in faith and speak the first few words that you do get. As you keep speaking, the more the interpretation and words will come.

You will probably want to stop and take notes! I can’t tell you enough how inspirational this whole process is. When the Holy Spirit gives you the interpretation, it is full of life and revelation. I have been so awe-struck at times at what is spoken- sometimes those statements are so simple and profound. Truly a ‘word in due season.’ It will be particularly meaningful for your life and situations.

Talk it out with God, and see what scriptures He shows you, and practical applications He gives you. This will translate your inspiration and revelation into personal transformation. So make sure to take the time to write it down in your prayer journal, so you can memorize and memorialize what He spoke through you.

And it is important to understand that what is spoken directly from the spirit (tongues) still does a powerful work IN and THROUGH the spirit. Interpretation gets your mind up to speed and renews it enough to take out some stops that might be hindering your transformation into the image of Christ
