SOCIAL SIN:POVERTY

BY: SEAMUS OLIVER

WHAT IT IS

  • Poverty is the state of lacking necessary materials or money
  • Poverty is unfortunately common in the city of Wilmington
  • In some parts of the city, almost 40% of residents live below the poverty line
  • Many of these residents are African-American

WHAT IS BEING DONE

  • The Ministry of Caring runs the Emmanuel Dining Hall, several housing units, a senior center, and several day cares, all at little to no cost
  • Because of the Ministry of Caring's actions, many people receive food, housing, and child care at an affordable price
  • The Emmanuel Dining Hall provides food for the hungry, and their housing units and senior center provide shelter for the working poor

HOW WE HAVE HELPED

  • Saint Edmonds has already done two donations drives that have benefitted the Ministry of Caring
  • We have collected both books and baby supplies, and will likely conduct another drive this year

HOW YOU CAN HELP

  • You can donate to this year's donation drive or donate on your own
  • You can also volunteer or donate money or items to the Ministry of Caring at https://www.ministryofcaring.org
