What Is Mental Illness?

  • Mental illness is any disease or condition that influences the way a person thinks, feels or behaves

Post Traumatic Disorder (PTSD)

  • Its a psychiatric disorder that can occur the following experiences in a life threatening event
  • A mental health condition triggered by a massive amount of stress and visualizing flashbacks in past events

Signs/Symptoms

  • You may have nightmares
  • You may feel like you are going through the event again. This is called a flashback.
  • You may see, hear, or smell something that causes you to relive the event. This is called a trigger.
  • You may not have positive or loving feelings toward other people and may stay away from relationships

Treatment

  • Can't be cured, but treatment may help
  • Prescription: 1.Paroxetine(Paxil)
  • 2.Sertraline(Zoloft)
  • 3.Fluoxetine(Prozac)
  • Therapy
  • Primary care provider(PCP):Prevents, diagnosis,and treats diseases
  • Clinical Psychologist:Treats mental disorders primarily with talk therapy
  • Psychiatrist:Treats mental disorder primarily with medications
