• Are animals b/c multicellular, heterotrophic, & no cell wall
• Are porifera b/c multicelled immobile animals

WHERE ARE THEY FOUND?

• All marine and many fresh water habitats

REPRODUCTION

• A larva is released into the water after fertilization
• It floats around for a few days then sticks to a solid
• It then begins to grow into an adult sponge
• Porifera can also reproduce asexually by budding

DIET

• Tiny, floating organic particles and plankton
• Filtered through the water that flows through body

ROLE IN ENVIRONMENT

• Soaks up nutrients in water
• Then turns them into food for reefs

INTERESTING FACTS

• Spongebob is a porifera
• A new sponge is found every year
• Chemicals sponges produce are used to help cancer
• Largest porifera was almost 10ft
