Born on November 25, 1881as Angelo Giuseppe Roncalli
Grew up in a big poor family in Italy
He died on June 3, 1963
He was ordained a priest on August 10, 1904
His papacy began October 28, 1958

He called the Second Vatican Council
Wanted to bring the Church up to date with the modern world
Does not want the Church to be viewed as a museum
Created 23 new Cardinals many from new countries

Improved mass to appeal to the modern world
Called the Second Vatican Council to renew the Church
This got the ball rolling for the church to adapt its attitude toward modernism

Born Karol Józef Wojtyła on May 18, 1920 in Poland
He grew up Poland when it was communist so being a priest was dangerous
He became a priest in November 1946 and he was a teacher
In July 1958 he became the Bishop of Kraków in Poland

PAPAL ACOMPLISHMENTS
Helped drive communism in Europe and dictatorships in other countries
He traveled the most out of any other pope going to over 129 countries
He also named the most saints out of any pope canonizing 483 people
He created world youth day to bring together the youth of the world
He also wrote 14 encyclicals

He has the gift of strength because he suffered from Parkinson's disease and he was an example of having dignity in the face of pain
He also had the gift of counsel because he gave great advice in his encyclicals about modern issues

Born on December 17, 1936 in Argentina
He was ordained a priest in 1969
He was also part of the Society of Jesus or the Jesuits
He is the first pope from South America

PAPAL ACCOMPLISHMENTS
He has meet with the patriarch of the Eastern Orthodox Church and other diplomats to pray for peace
He made a synod dealing with family issues
Created his first Apostolic Exhortation about the need for economic justice
Expanded the Vatican Bank to create a better economic position and to be an example for other European Countries
"I have come as light into the world, that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness" from his first encyclical Lumen Fidei

He is the first South American pope
He focuses on the young and the poor
He is still young in his papacy and still has much to give us
He has been praying for peace in the middle east

He has the gift of piety because he doesn't live in luxury like other popes
He lives in a small apartment and rides in a normal car
He also has the gift of knowledge because he is a very smart man and he was a scientist when he was younger
