A CHALLENGE FOR FINE ART TRADITIONS

POP ART WAS USED FOR ADVERTISING ETC...
Pop art helped the word restart it's consumer culture, it presented a challenge to the traditions of fine art, by including imagery from the popular culture (hence the name; pop art) such as; advertising, news, posters etc...

THE CONCEPTS OF POP ART ARE THE ATTITUDES THAT IT LEADS TO.

MATERIAL IS SOMETIMES OUT OF ITS KNOWN CONTEXT, OR ISOLATED ETC...
In pop art, material sometimes removed from it's known context, isolated, and/or combined with unrelated material. The pop art concept refers not towards the art itself but rather the attitudes it leads to.

POP ART COMMONLY USES EVERYDAY MUNDANE AND BORING OBJECTS

Pop art commonly uses everyday, mundane, and boring objects as it's subject. Using bright colours and/or taking it out of its natural habitat and into a setting you usually wouldn't see it in. Things painted in the pop art style are usually made to look 2D, but can also uncommonly appear in 3D sculptures etc...
The works are then mass marketed for advertisement purposes for example, music, food, theatres, and general products.

THE NEW MOVEMENT

  • Pop art was considered different to any other art movement
  • Based around what was going on in society
  • Abstract, depersonalised, no figure
  • Rarely incorporates a mood/feeling to image
