  • Scenarios differ greatly 
  • Much controversy surrounding sting operations and their growing frequency
  • Common example is monitored car scenario

R. v. mack (1988)

  • Norman Mack - previous drug offender
  • Old acquaintance of his, Momotiuk, harassing him for drugs
  • Momotiuk was a police informant
  • Despite Mack's constant denials, Momotiuk continued asking for drugs
  • After an incident in the woods, Mack finally gave in, and supplied drugs

right vs. wrong

  • Individual most commit the crime without persuasion or intimidation
  • Officers should only present the offer
  • Individual must have the option to accept or decline
  • If they accept the offer, they can be held accountable for the crime
  • If they decline, that individual should be let go
