What is Pneumonia?
Pneumonia is a condition that affects tiny air sacs in your lungs (alveoli).
It causes the alveoli to get inflamed and filled with fluid.
Because this happens in your lungs, it makes it harder to breathe.

Millions of people in the USA are affected by Pneumonia.
It can be caused by bacteria, viruses or fungi.
It can infect either 1 or 2 lungs.

Pneumonia makes your lungs get inflamed and filled with fluid, making it harder to breathe.

Who is at risk of it?
Babies/young children
People over 65
People with long term heart, lung and kidney diseases or diabetes.
People who smoke or drink alcohol
People with HIV

Pneumonia in Kenya
Some childrens' skin turned blue-black due to lack of oxygen.
Many people in Kenya died because of Pneumonia, however it is easy to treat.

Can it be cured?
If the pneumonia is mild, it can be treated at home with rest, antibiotics and drinking fluids.
It can take up to 6 months for you to feel better.

1 week- the fever should start to wear off.
4 weeks - chest pain / mucas production should start to reduce.
6 weeks-coughs and breathlessness should start to reduce.
3 months-most symptoms should of gone but you'll still feel fatigued.
6 months-no symptoms shown.
