SMALL BODIES

(CERES, ASTEROIDS, COMET, DWARF PLANETS, KUIPER BELT OBJECTS)

CERES
Ceres is largest object in the asteroid belt. It's orbit goes in between mars and Jupiter. It's composed of rock and ice.

ASTEROIDS
Asteroids are small bodies that orbit the sun. The are mostly 1,000 km from Ceres. There are large numbers of asteroids in the asteroid belt (hence the name).

COMET
Comets are small bodies of ice, rock, and dust. They follow an elliptical orbit around the sun. The speed of a comet varies on their distance from the sun.

DWARF PLANET
A dwarf planet is almost exactly like a planet except it doesn't have the mass to clear other planets through it's path. Dwarf planets have their own gravity just like normal planets. Pluto was one of the first dwarf planets

KUIPER BELT OBJECTS
Comets are found in the Kuiper Belt, so are Oort clouds. This belt is located behind Neptune's orbit. Kuiper belts are also located in this system.
