  • My name is Deriyonah Reid.
  • I presently attend eighth grade ,
  • at JoAnna Connell Elementary School.

  • Confectionery is the art of creating sugar based desert forms.
  • The title of my project is -
  • Mixing Your Own Marshmallows :
  • Finding the Right Ratio of Sugar to Corn Syrup

  • The problem that I investigated was :
  • "What ratio of sugar to corn syrup produced the best marshmallow?"
  • I chose this project because I consume many sugar based food items such as marshmallows .
  • I wanted to understand marshmallows completely.
  • This experiment was conducted three times over a period three days.

RESEARCH

  • In order to further understand the project and to make it more understandable I researched the topic.
  • First off , I researched the history of marshmallows.
  • Marshmallows are made different now then they were in past years.

QUESTIONS

  • Other questions I looked to answer were :
  • "Why is corn syrup added to marshmallows?"
  • Corn syrup is added in order to make the marshmallow sticky and sweet.
  • "What role does gelatin play in the making of marshmallows?"
  • Gelatin replaces the thick gluey substance in the marshmallow plant.

QUESTIONS

  • "What is gelatin?"
  • Gelatin comes from collagen, the main protein in connective tissue. This is a protein that can coagulate (or come together).
