ORIGIN OF THE PIG

  • They came from Asia and Europe.
  • They domesticate from the Eurasian wild boar.
  • Introduced to the Europeans in the 1800's and late 1900's

HOW THE PIG CAME TO THE U.S.

  • Brought to the U.S. In the 1900's
  • Brought here by a Spanish explorer
  • They were a good trade with Native Americans.

HOW DID THE PIG HAVE A POSITIVE IMPACT ON THE U.S.?

  • They give us food like:Pork, ham, loin,bacon, and ham e.t.c
  • It is used all around the world and is a great economy booster.
  • 22.8 Million lbs of pork was produced in 2011.
  • It's meat is sold everywhere and is traded for other goods.

PIGS CONDITIONS

  • Climate:Pigs are very sensitive to temperature and humidity change. It can effect there product.
  • Body: Females weigh up to120-500lbs,males weigh up to 200-550lbs.Sometimes farmed pigs exceed 1,000lb
  • Food: corn, wheat, barley, and grains
  • Mating:Two litters per sow per year.

IN WHAT WAYS HAVE PIGS BEEN GENETICALLY ENGINEERED

  • They create bigger and better pigs for shows and money.
  • Parasite control and deworming. If not the food will be gross.
  • Demands for products that are unique so they create special pigs.
