- Reflexes (0-1 month)
- Primary Circular Reactions (1-4 months)
- Secondary Circular Reactions (4-8 months)
- Coordination of Reactions (8-12 months)
- Tertiary Curcular Reactions (12-18 months)
Young children think about things symbolically. Develop memory and imagination and engage in make-believe. Ages 2-7. Very egocentric and only see things from their point of view.
Children begin to think logically about concrete events. Thinking becomes more logical and organized. Realize ones thoughts and feelings are unique. Ages 7-11.
Abstract thought emerges. Teens begin to think more about moral, philosophical, ethical, social, and political issues that require theoretical and abstract reasoning. Use deductive logic from a general principle to specific information. Ages 12 and up.
Piaget believed in lifelong intellectual development, he insisted that the formal operational stage is the final stage of cognitive development, and that continued intellectual development in adults depends on the accumulation of knowledge.
