*Writing that is meant to influence others' beliefs, feelings, or actions.

Examples: Persuasive Letters, Campaign Speeches, Advertisements, Newspaper Editorials, etc.

Argument:
Writing or speaking that expresses a claim on an issue and supports it with reasons and evidence

Synonym: PERSUASION, Opinion, Point of View

Claim: the main point or belief the author sets out to prove in order to influence the audience's opinion on an issue.

Example of Claim:

Support: Any information that proves a claim (Reasons and Evidence)

Example:
Chewing gum is good for you because________
* Reason 1: It helps you focus.
* Evidence 1: Atudents' test scores have proven to increase when kids chew gum.

* Reason 2: It is health benefits.
Evidence 2: People who chew gum weigh less and have 70% fewer cavities.
