PRESENTATION OUTLINE

Maintaining Personal Space

Maintaining personal space is very important.

WHAT IS PERSONAL SPACE?

THIS IS THE SPACE AROUND YOU THAT YOU DON'T WANT OTHERS IN.
Sometimes, you get too close to your friends and they begin to back away or cower. This usually means you are too close. Instead of continuing to move closer to your friend you want to back away.

SOMETIMES, YOU'RE TOO CLOSE

Mr. Jones does not want Mrs. Pitzer so close. Mrs. Litter shouldn't touch Mr. Jones either. He looks frightened!

SPACE MAKES YOUR FRIENDS COMFORTABLE

While talking to your friends, leaving space between you will make you both happy! Look at Mr. Jon and Mr. Jones smiling!

CREATE SPACE!

Even while sitting down, you and your friends should creat space!

THE HOOP RULE

The Hula Hoop Rule states that you should be a hula hoop apart. They are happy to not be too close!

HIGH FIVE

I know conversations can be exciting or you missed someone and you want to hug them, but that invades their personal space. Instead of hugging your friends, it is better to give a high five. Look how happy they are!

STOP!

When your friends begin to get too close it's okay to tell them to "stop, you're getting too close!"

HOW COULD YOU HELP MR. JON?

Look at Miss Polito, what is she doing?
Look at Mr. Jon, how do you think he feels?

How could you help Mr. Jon? What should Miss Polito do?

QUESTIONS?

Your team wants you to succeed and make friends, but it is important to maintain personal space with your friends.

Do you have any questions?
