Persian Facts

  • The Persians lived mostly in Persia now called Iran.
  • Persians practiced a religion called Islam. Most Persians were radical Muslims called Shiats.
  • The people of Persia spoke in a language called Farsi. Farsi is still spoken today.

Employment

  • Farmers- grew crops for selling in markets
  • Laborers- built huts, roads, sculpted, and painted
  • Merchants- traded and sold goods in a market or to other countries like bread, fruit, perfumes, rugs, and valuable minerals
  • Landlords- Persians who rented out building in order to gain more wealth
  • Soldiers- fought in wars
  • Slaves- worked in the houses of wealthy Persians

  • Head dresses, long robes, loin cloths, and gold jewelry.

Persian Holidays

  • Iranian New Year- celebrates the spring equinox
  • Mehregan- When God/Allah gave light to the world
  • Yalda Festival-celebrates winter solstice
  • Jashn e Sadeh- honors fire and defeats cold or frost

Life in Persia

  • Persian families were large.
  • In terms of household rules what Father says goes!
  • Poor children often had to work with their parents in market places or as slaves
  • Rich children were taught various skills. boys were taught how to ride horses and draw bows, and girls were taught to cook, clean, and sew.
