THE BIBLE IS? THE STORY OF OUR SALVATION AND TELLS US OF GOD'S ENDURING LOVE FOR HUMANITY. 

Biblical exegesis? Critical interpretation and explanation of a biblical text, it can lead to a deeper understanding of the Bible's meaning for the people it was written to and a more accurate interpertation of what it means to us today. 
Catholics Read the Bible and believe in the church's Tradition. Through the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, Catholic leaders and scholars help to explain and interpert the Sacred scripture. 

The two main sections of the Bible? Old Testiment and New Testiment 

Brief discription of the content of the Old Testiment Before the times of Christ and the Apostiles.
It relates the teachings and events before the comin of Jesus Christ. 
The Old testiment can be divided into four categories of books. What are the four categories? 1.The books of Law
2.The Historical Books
3.The Wisdom Books
4.The phrophetic Books 

Why is the new Testiment called "New"? The New testiment (especially the Gospels) records the Good News of Jesus Christ.
What is considered to be the heart of the Scritpures? The Gospels

People experienced God over a long period of time. Devine Revelation

People shared the stories of their experiences of God. Oral Tradition

The leaders of the Church determined the official collection of inspired books that is the Bible. This collection is called the? Canon

People speaking different languages translate the Bible into their own languages from the Bible's original languages which were Hebrew Aramaic and Greek.

Why were the early Christians especially concerned about protecting and safeguarding the message of Jesus Christ by writing it down? Because many of the people knew Jesus personally and were being persecuted and put to death for their faith. The people did not want to lose the perspective and testimonies of these witnesses to the life and missions of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.
What are the four standards used by the bishops of the Church to discern which books to include in the canon of the Bible? 1. Apostolic Origin
2.Universal Acceptance
3.Celebrations and the Eucharist
4. The message needed to be consistant with other Christian, Hebrew, or Jewish writings.

Discribe what is meant by a fundamentalist approach to biblical interpertation. The interpertation of the Bible and christioan doctrine based on the literalist meaning of the Bible's word. The interpertaion is made without regard to the historical settings in which the writings or teachings were first developed.

Describe what is meant by a contextual approach to biblical interpertation. The interpertation ot the bible that takes into account the various contexts for understanding. These contexts include the Senses of scripture, Literacy Forms and Historical situations, cultural backgrounds, the unity of the whole of the Scriptures, Tradition, and the Analogy of Faith. 

How was biblical archaeology helped us to better understand the Scriptures? It showed what life was like in biblical times 

A biblical scholar "must be attentive to what the human authors truley wanted to affirm to what God wanted to reveal to us by their words". In doing this the scholar must study the- genres and literary in which the biblical author lived. The scholar must also look at the culture
and content commonly used at the time. techniques

Thorough exegesis must be done by keeping in mind the larger truths revealed in the Scriptures and Tradition. How does this affect the interpertatation of a particular text or passage of the Bible? The scholar discovers the deeper meaning of the Sacred Sripture. 

The unity of the Church's doctrine, the coherence of God's revealed truth is called
analogy of faith.
