Pennsylvania is called the Keystone State. It was the center of a new nation during the Revolutionary War. The Declaration of Independence was signed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

In 1812, Harrisburg became the capital of Pennsylvania. People wanted the capital close to the center of the state.
