EMPEROR PENGUINS

• Flightless
• A female lays 1 egg, then leaves
• Father balances egg on their feet and covers it with his brood pouch
• They stand there for 65 days
• 2 months later the females return bringing food

CHICKS

• As the chicks grow, parents leave them in groups called creches
• December the weather warms bringing waters closer to the chicks
• By then the chicks are old enough to fish on their own
• Life span = 20 years
• Endangered status = near threatened
