BIRTH

  • He was born on July 29 1930
  • Wilkinsburg, Pennsylvania
  • grew up in Washington D.C.

BEGINNINGS

  • Attended Syracuse University, 1949-52.
  • Juilliard School of Music, 1952-53
  • He also attended Connecticut College, Metropolitan School of Ballet, and Martha Graham School of Contemporary Dance

RECOGNITION

  • MacArthur Genius award in 1985
  • Primetime Emmy Awward for choreography
  • Kennedy center honors

RESPECT

  • "the man most often called our greatest living choreographer."
  • The New Yorker said, "a style as individual as a thumbprint."
  • Style so unique that it has been called "Taylorism."

LEGACY

  • Taylor has received critical acclaim for athletic and experimental choreography.
  • And is one of the greatest modern dancer to receive recognition through the the world.
