PATAU SYNDROME

• Patau's Syndrome or Trisomy 13
• Occurs when there is an extra chromosome
• in the 13 slot in the karyotype

PATAU SYNDROME

• There is now a way to detect Trisomy 13 in fetus'
• Associated with severe intellectual disability and physical abnormalities
• Extra fingers/toes, cleft lip, no roof in mouth,weak muscle tone, small
• or poorly developed eyes, heart defects, and brain or spinal cord
• abnormalities- also severe mental retardation

PATAU SYNDROME

• It is associated with the chromosome karyotype 13
• Because of an extra chromosome on the karyotype 13
