What IS a pastry chef?
A pastry chef is a chef who specializes in making pastries, such as cupcakes, cake, pie, scones, and more!
As a head pastry chef, you must keep all of the other chefs on task. Also, if you own the business you work at, you have to manage payments.
High school education
For high school, it is recommended to take these classes:
ELA
Bakers must be able to read and analyze recipes.
Math:
Pastry chefs need to know how to calculate and measure recipies
Science
Pastry chefs should know the chemistry of baking, meaning how ingredients react when blended together.
Why this job appeals to me
I LOVE baking treats, and decorating them. I like helping people in my own creative way, like making them food.
Who they work with
Pastry chefs usually work with other pastry chefs, and assistant chefs.
How do they communicate?
Usually, chefs communicate over baking websites, and comment and share what they do.
A day in the life of a pastry chef
Get up at 6:00 am, go to the shop. Work on the new recipes, then open the shop. Develop new recipes, and complete costumer requests. Go out to get ingredients. Cook some more. Go home at 6:00pm.
How does this job relate to STEM?
Pastry chefs must know what is happening to the molecules in their food , so they can use that science to make new recipes.
