  • Paints, walls, rooms, ceilings
  • Goes to store to get paint and supplies
  • Must be able to use painting supplies effectively
  • Must be able to measure the size of walls to determine how much paint is needed
  • Location of the job: people's homes, stores, buildings, billboards, and schools

  • A painter apprenticeship lasts four years and requires 5,600 to 6,000 hours of on-the-job training.
  • 4 years of art school and a degree

MATH SKILLS NEEDED

  • You must be able to measure the dimensions of a wall with a tape measure
  • Draw sketches of what you want the wall to look like and scale down the size
  • Add up the price of the paint so you don't go over somebody's budget

MATH PROBLEM

  • If a room has 4 walls that are 33ft wide and 12ft tall
  • How many gallons of paint would you need to paint the room if one gallon
  • Covered 10ft squared of one wall?

MATH PROBLEM SOLUTION

  • 33ft x 12ft= 396ft for one wall
  • 396ft x 4 walls= 1,548ft
  • You need 159 gallons of paint
