1080 Poison

Yellow Hat

• Kills possums who kill birds and chicks and raid nests for eggs.
• Kills stoats who are responsible for up to 60% of kiwi chick deaths.
• Kills ship rats who prey on small birds and chicks.
• Will stop up to 60% of kea nests being attacked by predators.
• 9/10 kiwi chicks that hatch in the wild will die from predaators.

Black Hat

• There is no antidote for this poison.
• This poison can kill dogs, cats, deer, pigs, birds, hedge hogs, bees and other insects.
• A possum carcass can take six months or more to decompose depending on where it lies and weather conditions.
• A pellet can last up to six months in cool dry conditions.
• After an aerial drop there is no control over the pellets they can be wind blown or washed down a hill under graded pellets travel down in to soil and ground water therefore it can get into tank water, streams and water supplies.

Red Hat

• I think that 1080 poison should not be used because it kills too many other animals that aren't meant to be affected with 1080 poison. People should not have to worry about whether their cat or dog is around 1080.
