WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Harsh conditions
  • Factories had a lot of pollution
  • Diseases spread easily since so many people
  • Workers worked long hours
  • They got little pay

  • 1820- 8% in cities
  • 1860- 16% in cities
  • 1920 more people were in the cities than rural area

WOMEN

  • Women worked in factories
  • Women started their own businesses from home
  • Women started to support their families
  • They were not dependent on men as much anymore
  • This encouraged women to become more educated as well

  • Worked long harsh hours in factories
  • They didn't get payed as much as an adult
  • They were taken advantage of
  • Child labor was common in factories

SOCIAL CLASSES

  • Lower class was the workers
  • The lower class got payed the least but worked the most
  • Higher class consisted of corporate managers and owners
  • Higher class got more money but they worked less hours
  • Social system was unfair for lower class since they also had to pay more taxes

TRADE UNIONS

  • Bargain for better working conditions
  • Didn't want workers to have their working conditions violated
  • Wanted to promote equal and fair relationships between worker and employer
  • Wanted the workers to get payed fairly for the amount of time they worked
