PRESENTATION OUTLINE
ALGERIA'S FIGHT FOR INDEPENDANCE
Algeria had been powerful, very powerful. Their armada and fleet was impeccable, ruling the seas in all it's power and glory. They were unstoppable, built with the power and force of the strength of the mind, heart and soul. A foundation of believing and knowing they were on top. Many a countries had tried to take them down; England, Dutch, even the United States. It wasn't until France came that it all fell apart.
1830 was when it really all began. When life as the Algerians knew it was shattered. Memories once defined with happiness and joy trampled by the boots of the French and replaced by those of broken dreams, blood and pain. A carefully stitched together quilt to keep what was left of their previous lives' remnants together so cruelly ripped apart. In the 1800's, traditional patterns of land ownership were dismantled, so countries were free to take what they pleased. France took many countries in Arfrica, a prime one being Algeria. France ruled and dictated Algeria, unfairly and horribly. Throughout the years however, Algeria realized that they wanted independence, and that the fight was not easy. A war had to take place before freedom was even in reach of their desperate hands.
While under the French domination, Algerians were prisoners in their own homes. They could not hold public meetings nor leave their homes without permission. France's racism toward Africa and Algeria kept the people at the very bottom of society, working as servants, unskilled labourours and peasants, leaving only French citizens or people of the white race allowed to have skilled jobs and positions in the social institutions ranging from a policeman to a place in the government.
