To Kill a Mocking Bird

Innocence

Atticus Finch
"If you shouldn’t be defendin‘ him, then why are you doin’ it?(100)"
-Scout asks Atticus why he is defending Tom and he says its the right thing to do, and for that reason he defends atom Robinson and him and his family are treated with disrespect.

Tom Robinson
"Mr. Underwood didn’t talk about miscarriages of justice, he was writing so children could understand. Mr. Underwood simply figured it was a sin to kill cripples, be they standing, sitting, or escaping. He likened Tom’s death to the senseless slaughter of songbirds by hunters and children...(323)"
-Tom being a black man whose case involves whites, he is found guilty, and is sent to jail and is killed. Tom had done nothing wrong but was killed after trying to escape the county jail.

Arthur "Boo" Radley
"...To my way of thinkin’, Mr. Finch, taking the one man who’s done you and this town a great service an‘ draggin’ him with his shy ways into the limelight—to me, that’s a sin. It’s a sin and I’m not about to have it on my head. If it was any other man, it’d be different. But not this man, Mr. Finch....I may not be much, Mr. Finch, but I’m still sheriff of Maycomb County and Bob Ewell fell on his knife. Good night, sir. (369-370)"
-After Bob Ewell is found dead, Atticus does not believe Bob died by his own hand, that it was either Jem or Arthur. Sheriff Tate convinces Atticus that is was neither of them and Bob fell on his own knife. Boo was locked up by his father Mr. Radley and has continued to stay inside the house to avoid the drama of Maycomb, he has not done anything wrong but has saved the Finch children.
