In 1799 a French solder was helping to build a fort in Egypt. His name was Jean Francois Champollion. He was the one who discovered the stone.

The Rosetta Stone held the same message written in three languages, Demotic, Greek, and hieroglyphics. It was written by Egyptian priests telling of all the great things the pharaoh has done.
