HOW IS IT DIFFERENT FROM ENGLISH?

  • Hieroglyphics can be written in any direction
  • The reader would have to figure out with way to read
  • Hieroglyphics had no vowels, or punctuation
  • A goal for writing hieroglyphics is to express beauty

THE ROAETA STONE

THE KEY TOO UNLOCKING HIEROGLYPHICS

In 1799 a French solder was helping to build a fort in Egypt. His name was Jean Francois Champollion. He was the one who discovered the stone.

The Rosetta Stone held the same message written in three languages, Demotic, Greek, and hieroglyphics. It was written by Egyptian priests telling of all the great things the pharaoh has done.

IMHOTEP

  • Was a famous scribe
  • He also designed the first pyramids
  • Became hight priest of the sun god
  • Later "became a god"
