DEFYING GRAVITY ANALYSIS

  • Defying gravity was composed by Stephen Schwartz. It is a well known song from the musical Wicked as it is the final song. The piece is a duet because there are two singers. It starts off with a intro, then there is a first verse, then a chorus, verse 2, the chorus, verse 3 and then finally the chorus again. The song is homophonic and polyphonic in some parts but it is mostly monophonic. The song is steady and strong and quite dramatic because it is the final piece. The singers voices are strong and loud but there are some parts to the song which are softer. The pitch of the song is legato and the dynamics start off soft but then crescendo to loud.
