CLAIM
DATA
COMMENTARY

A strong claim is:

  • Provable
  • Specific
  • Thorough
  • Answers the question (if applicable)
  • States the importance of something

Should dinosaurs be brought back from extinction?

Make a claim!

  • Take a stance
  • Answer the question
  • Give reasons when possible

Dinosaurs do not belong in modern society.

DATA is where you

  • prove your point
  • supply evidence

Even Owen, from Jurassic World agrees that "it's probably not a good idea" to bring dinosaurs back.

For example, on page XX, Crichton states "extinct animals should be left extinct."

In Commentary, you

  • fully explain your ideas
  • connect the dots between data and claim--why does that evidence prove your point?
  • Explain it like whoever is reading is DUMB.
  • *have at least two sentences explaining (likely, more)
  • Explain the importance/value

There is an entire movie franchise and book series dedicated to why exactly this is a bad idea. Inevitably, in these examples, people die.The fear of death, alone, should be enough to convince all parties that dinosaurs should remain in the past.
