PRESENTATION OUTLINE

The 1919 World Series was coming up, and the White Sox were heavily favored

There was a lot of betting in the 1915-1930's. Since everyone was betting on the Reds, the mob tried to pay off the White Sox to lose the World Series

The Series started, and even though it was suspected that it was rigged, they kept playing.

EVENTUALLY THEY GOT CAUGHT AND WERE BANNED FOR LIFE

"Shoeless" Joe Jackson was banned for life, even though he was illiterate and didn't know what he was signing. He even had one of the best World Series that year

In the Great Gatsby, there s a character named Meyer Wolfsheim, who in the book, rigged the World Series

This was important to the time period because it showed how much power the mob had in the world. It showed their power to rig even the biggest of events.
