What is a simile?
A simile is a figure of speech that compares two different things with as or like to make the sentence more interesting.

Examples of similes

  • You're as slow as a snail
  • I'm as strong as a bull
  • This pizza is as cold as ice
  • I'm as lazy as a sloth
  • That dog eats like a pig

Metaphors vs similes
These both figures in speech are often thought of as one, well they are not. A metaphor is when you compare two things that are similar in some way without using the words as or like. Whereas in a simile you say that a person, place or thing is like something else using the words like or as.
