WHEN DID KIDS BEGIN WORKING ON THE PLANTATION?

Kids began working at ages 2-3 doing domestic chores such as childcare, weeding, scaring away birds, kindling, collecting trash, toting water, and plucking grubs off of plants. Children start field work anywhere from the ages of 8-12.

PUNISHMENTS

Children's punishments were harsh. Their punishments were similar to adult slaves punishments. Their punishments included whipping, and being forced to swallow worms.

CLOTHING

Slave children were usually giving minimal amounts of clothing, some didn't have any at all. The change of dress for slave children would usually happen when adolescence began. Boys went from long dress shirts to pants, and girls wore dresses until ten, twelve, even thirteen years of age.
