GENERAL FACTS ABOUT THE POLLUTION

  • The fifth most polluted river in the world
  • Over 1 billion litres of waste goes into the Ganges everyday

WHY IS THE GANGES SO POLLUTED?

  • Toxic waste from factories
  • Garbage and raw sewage
  • Acids, dyes and heavy metals
  • People's rubbish because there is no proper way to get rid of it

HOW DOES THE POLLUTION AFFECT PEOPLE?

  • Chromium, a bacteria, is toxic and poisonous so affects the health
  • People get diseases and become sick by drinking from the Ganges
  • People lose their jobs.

HOW DOES THE POLLUTION AFFECT ANIMALS IN THE GANGES?

  • The Ganges Dolphin is close to becoming extinct
  • Since population increase, more waste affects wildlifes' health
  • The fishers are causing a huge fall in the number of dolphins with the nets
  • Fish attempt to kill the bacteria but do not succeed, pollution is too strong
