The major sports in Venezuela are baseball, basketball and football. In international games, Venezuela has participated in the olympic games since 1948, and the wintern olympic games since 1998. Baseball was originated in the early 20th century and the league was stablished in 1945. Football lags behind baseball but it's popularity is bigger. Then there was created the Basketball league in 1974.

Venezuela is immersed in its most severe economic crisis since 2003, President Nicolás Maduro's announcement of a major restructuring of his government raised hopes that he might have a plan to tackle the problem. Instead, on September 2nd Mr Maduro ruled out any “capitalist” solution, declared his economic policy “successful” and sidelined Rafael Ramírez, the only cabinet member proposing substantial change.
