the beginning

  • The history of boxing is believed to have began in North Africa in 4000 BC 
  • In 1681, the first signs of recorded boxing is found. It is widely believed
  • that the Duke of Albermarle had the butcher and the butler box.

  • 1866: Marquess of Queensberry sets new rules
  • Took a while for bare knuckled figths to go out,  but it went down a lot
  • 3-minute rounds, banned gouging & wrestling & made gloves compuslory

THE beginning (part 3)

  • Boxing was first in the 1904 Olympics in Saint Lois
  • The U.S.A won all the classes in that Olympic Games
  • Oliver Kirk won two out of the two classes he competed in

technical terms ( just a little bit )

  • Under card: A fight that is below the main event. 
  • Bleeder: A fighter that is vulnerable to cuts. 
  • Buckle: When a boxers legs give out on him.
  • Bob & Weave: When a boxer moves his body in an up and down motion
  • Southpaw: A left handed fighter. A regular is the opposite. 

Female boxing

  • Female boxing never really took off, but it is still there.
  • There are multiple classes, but they aren't any different.
