CARING FOR BRACES

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

WHAT CAN'T I EAT

  • You should not eat anything that can damage your brackets or that can't be easily removed with a tooth brush.
  • This includes: apples, gum, popcorn, hard or chewy candy; like toffee.

HOW DO I BRUSH PROPERLY

  • When brushing with braces you should brush lightly but thoroughly.
  • Start by brushing under your brackets at a 45 degree angle.
  • After you have done that, brush in light circular motions over your teeth as you would regularly.
  • Next, floss. Flossing is important in getting the plaque that cannot be removed with a brush.

WHEN DO I GET MY BRACES OFF

  • Everyone is different in the lengths of time that it takes to fix their teeth.
  • It can be anywhere from a few months to a few years.

WHAT KINDS OF BRACES ARE THERE

  • There are a few kinds of braces that are available to you..
  • Invisalign is a type of braces that look like a retainer but are clear so that they are not visible. This type of braces are used for people with more of a mild case.
  • Then there are olds fashioned braces; brackets and wire. They do however have brackets that are white to make them less noticeable.
