PRESENTATION OUTLINE

WHAT IS BIOMASS?

  • Biomass is mass usually thought of as...
  • Garbage
  • Dead trees
  • Yard clippings, but it is so much more!

NONRENEWABLE OR RENEWABLE?

  • Bio mass is renewable!
  • Renewable means that the substance is never ending

ADVANTAGES

Easy to obtain

Renewable

DISADVANTAGES

It costs more to generate electricity at a waste-to-energy plant than it does at a coal and hydropower plant

DISADVANTAGES

Burning fossil fuels and burning biomass releases carbon dioxide (CO2), and greenhouse gas

Uses
1.In places with lots of animals, you can get the manure and it makes methane gas
2. Tree branches are turned into steam then the steam is used to turn turbines

What is coal?

Coal is a hard, black colored rock-like substance. It is made of carbon, hydrogen, oxygen, nitrogen, and varying amounts of sulphur

RENEWABLE OR NONRENEWABLE?

  • Coal is nonrenewable
  • Nonrenewable means that if we run out of it, it will be gone forever
  • (Nonrenewable resources takes 2,000 + years to make)

ADVANTAGES

  • Can be turned into electricity
  • Makes heat and electricity

DISADVANTAGES

1.Burning coal produces numerous emissions that adversely affect the environment
2. Nonrenewable

USES

1.The coal is used to fuel power plants and other factories
2. The coal is used to create 39% of all the electricity generated in the United States
